Safeguarding
Hope Church takes safeguarding seriously. We want Hope Church to be a safe place for all that come. This means ensuring that people feel able to disclose situations, that the situations are dealt with appropriately and that systems are in place to reduce the risk of abuse.
The Law
Safeguarding means protecting an adult’s and a child’s right to live in safety, free from abuse and neglect. This right has been defined in law. These laws include The Children Act 1989 & 2004, Working Together To Safeguard Children 2023: Statutory Guidance and The Care Act 2014.
Our Christian Responsibility
We believe safeguarding the vulnerable is also part of our Christian life. We see this in many places in scripture and through the actions of Jesus and the disciples etc.

Deuteronomy 10:18 He defends the cause of the fatherless and the widow, and loves the foreigner residing among you, giving them food and clothing.
Psalm 82:3-4 Give justice to the weak and the fatherless; maintain the right of the afflicted and the destitute. Rescue the weak and the needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked
Proverbs 31:8-9 Open your mouth for the mute, for the rights of all who are destitute. Open your mouth, judge righteously, defend the rights of the poor and needy.

Reporting Concerns

Although we have a Safeguarding Team, safeguarding is everyone's responsibility. We all have a responsibility to act if we suspect abuse is happening and report it to the appropriate people.
To report a concern please speak to a member of the Safeguarding Team or fill out a form (found under the safeguarding posters at Hope Church) and hand it to a member of the Safeguarding Team or email safeguarding@wearehopechurch.net.
If you have a safeguarding concern about a member of the Safeguarding Team please email either steve@wearehopechurch.net or trustees@wearehopechurch.net
